April :   Take time to laugh, it is the most powerful medicine on earth.

March 13.  Pres. Susan and Lion Martin were in Louisiana,  working with Habit for Humanity,  vice President Jim Kave conducted the meeting.   Lion Dick introduced Larry Collins manager of the Ag Center,  he elaborated on possible joint fund raisers with the Ag center.   Eye glass collection has reached 2131 pair.

Smallwood:  Lion Roger will measure the property at Gamber and report at the next meeting.  Lion Dave Hopkins visited a Bowling Alley in Eldersburg to get information about possible fundraisers.  

March 20: Boards Bits:  Gamber Carnival will be May 24 to May 31.  Our Mulch sale will be April 12th  and April 19th at Deer Park Church.  The prices will be $4.50 per 3 cubic foot bag or $5.00 delivered within 3 miles.  Zone Golf tourament will be held on May 21 at Oakmont.   Lions Roger and Dave Hopkins measured the Gamber property,  the total area is much smaller than Reese,  if we keep the same number of spaces the parking area will be substanily reduced.

Donations as follows:  $50.00 to the Ride for the Cure.  Motion carried.    $350.00 to the Maryland Cooperative Extension,  motiom carried.  $100.00 to the I Can Foundation,  motion carried.    $125.00 to LVRF to cover the clubs raffle tickets, motion carried.  $100.00 to the SVOSH,  motion carried.    $100.00 to the March of Dimes,  motion carried.

March 27: Charter Night, this year’s event was held at the Elk’s Lodge in Westminster ,  the affair was attended by 41 Lions and guests.  DG Barbara McKenney presented Lion Marvin Sussman with a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellowship,  the highest honor in Lionism. Congratulations to Lion Marvin.  Thanks to Lion Bill and  Louise for the dinner arrangements.  Thanks to Lion Tom and Nancy for the programs. Thanks to Lion Dave and Myra Hopkins for the entertainment.  DG Barbara and Lion Ron McKenney were our guests.   Also in attendance were ZC Susan Bonura and Lion Martin,  PCS Dick Liebno and Grace,  PCT Kent Eitemiller and Lion Liz,  PCS Roger Sauter and Karen,  PDG Andy DeMario,  PDG Cecil Massie and Virginia and many others from various clubs.

  • April   10   Regular meeting of the Deer Park Lions Club at the church, community/new member night/Joint Meeting with Roaring Run Lions Club,  7PM.
  • April   12   Mulch sale at the Church,  8-3PM
  • April   16   Roaring Run Charter Night,  at the Best Western catering and Conference center,  $30.00/ person.
  • April   17   Board meeting at the Church,   7PM sharp.
  • April   19   Passover Begins.

  • April   24   Leader Dog Night,   Gamber Fire Hall,  Social 6-7PM,  dinner 7PM,   This will be a spouse night,  $15.00/person.  Bunny Talbatt will be the guest speaker with her dog “Baker”.  All our Lions need to be at Gamber Fire Hall by 4PM for setup.   This will be in lieu of our regular meeting.
  • April   26   Route 91 Road cleanup,  meet at the Park & Ride on Route 91,  7AM.  Wear gloves.
  • April   28   Fourth Zone Meeting at Taylorsville/Winfield Bethel UMC,7PM Hooper Road.

Current Events

  • The Deer Park Lions Club Activity line is available 24 hours a day.  The number is 410-848-8254.
  • King Lion Susan would like all members to wear their badges to all events and meetings.
  • See Lion Dick for your Vidalia Onions, the best available, orders must be in by April 11th they will be delivered in early May.  The price will be $10.00 for 10 Lbs.   Good Price from Dick!!!!

Future Events

  • Plan to attend the 86th  Multiple District Convention at Dover Downs,  May 7 to 10th    See Lion Bill Stonesifer for your reservations. This will be an opportunity to mix vacation and the Lions convention within the same trip,  
  • Zone Golf tournament,   May 21 at Oakmont in Hampstead,  12:00 noon start.
  • White Cane Night,  May 29 at the VFW Hall on Poole Road.
  • Gamber Carnival,  May 24 to may 31  Sat. to Sat,  we will feature our dual fairway Golf Game.  Niner Road and Route 32 in Gamber, MD.
